Nicholas' Journal  January 2007

January 31, 2007 Wednesday - (Day +786) Outpatient - (Day 744)

Nicholas seems to be doing pretty good right now. We think that he had a adverse reaction to his blood pressure medicine that he went on last Wednesday. He developed a kind of a nervous twich in his neck and shoulder area along with a small rash on his neck that comes and goes. We talked to his doctor in Spokane and was taken right off the medicine. It has calmed down a lot, but is still there sometimes. He is running and playing very well, and still does not lack any energy, lol... He is eating like a horse and probably still growing. He has grown 3" taller in 5 weeks and gained 6 lbs, wow. He is amazing. Please continue to pray for Nicholas, look over him, and heal the reaction to the medicine that he had.

January 28, 2007 Sunday - (Day +783) Outpatient - (Day 741)

It was a nice day and the sun was out. Nicholas wanted to take his bike to the skate park so off we went. He had a blast. He has grown so much that he has almost outgrown his bike. We are sure glad that winter is almost over. We still go to feed the ducks and the river is also thawing out. Please pray for Nicholas and his health.

January 27, 2007 Saturday - (Day +782) Outpatient - (Day 740)

Nicholas' favorite balloon is flying on top of the car dealer. He looks for this everyday and gets excited when it is there. It has not been flying for a while now so I told him it was sleeping for the winter. It is warming up everyday and the days are getting longer, thank goodness Spring is on the way. Please pray for Nicholas and his health.

January 26, 2007 Friday - (Day +781) Outpatient - (Day 739)

Nicholas and I got to town today and he wanted to go feed the ducks. He said they were hungry. So after we settled in away we went to the river to feed the ducks and I do think that the winter has taken a little toll on them, they act sooooo hungry and love to see Nicholas when we get there. They all come up on the dock to get the bread that we bring for them. It is a habit and fun, also just part of our daily routine. Please  pray for our little Nicholas and his health.

January 23, 2007 Tuesday - (Day +778) Outpatient - (Day 736)

WHITE BLOOD CELLS = 9,700
RED BLOOD HEMATOCRIT = 46,800
PLATELET = 471,000
IGG = 576

We are on our way to Spokane for a check up. Please pray for a great one. I will update later.

UPDATE: Upon arriving this morning they wanted to put a IV in and we said that it was a check up and not necessary. We then found out that the doctor wanted to pull 100ML of blood out to help his liver get rid on the high iron that has been stored by the many transfusions in the past of blood products. His iron levels have been high for a long time and so has his blood pressure, so the fix is for his body to naturally get rid of the iron by taking out some of his blood. With a hematocrit of 46,800 this is not going to hurt by any means. The doctor has also put him back on a high blood pressure medicine (Norvask) to bring it down a little. The doctors say that when the iron levels drop in his liver his blood pressure will also come down. So, this is the goal. His immunization shots will be given here by his local pediatrician. So, we are still moving forward. On our way home today Nicholas took a nap and when he woke up he looked pale and did not feel good. A little while later with his Mom he got sick and threw up all over the car. He was car sick.:(:(:( Later when I tucked him into bed he was back to himself, ate a big dinner and was getting ready for bed. What a day.... Please pray for Nicholas and his health.

P.S. I forgot to add, Nicholas gained 6 lbs in the last 5 weeks. WOW!!!
