Nicholas' Journal January 2006

January 31, 2006 Tuesday - (Day +424) Outpatient - (Day 381)

Nicholas came over early this morning after dropping his brother off at school. We spent the day together running and playing around the house. He is so much fun and full of energy that today I had a cup of coffee this evening, haven't done that for a long time. He went to bed at 9:30pm and started to snore. He is just a bundle of joy. Please continue to pray for him and a safe trip for us next week to Salt Lake City.

January 27, 2006 Friday - (Day +420) Outpatient - (Day 377)

Nicholas and I had a very busy morning. We had to eat and run to be able to be at his Occupational Therapy Appointment on time. We stopped at Starbucks and then on the road to arrive at his moms at 10:15am. His appointment went very well and the teacher said that she was surprised that he went as far as he did and he was more advanced that she expected. There are areas that he needs work, but they will start to do that next week. The teacher also told us just to keep doing what we are doing, we are doing a great job. He is eating big boy food all of the time now and still running like a "wild man." This is sop awesome. We are working our way to Salt Lake City and the surgery on Feb 8, 2006 when he will get his port removed, yeah!!! He is just doing soooo great. Please continue to pray for Nicholas and his recovery, and to stay healthy.

January 26, 2006 Thursday - (Day +419) Outpatient - (Day 376)

Nicholas and I had a great day playing. He wears me out. I think that his donor was a long distance runner. This kid never stops running. He is eating like a champ and I cooked for him most of the day it seems like. We are going to bed early because we have to leave to go back to Moms where he will have a 10:30 OT appointment. Please continue to pray for his recovery and his building immune system.

January 25, 2006 Wednesday - (Day +418) Outpatient - (Day 375)

Look at him Go!!!

Nicholas has been a dancin fool all day in between all of the chasin and ticklin. He is so cute and so full of energy, and personality. Nicholas is going to hang with me for a couple of days then off to occupational therapy at his moms on Friday morning. He is doing so great. Please continue to pray for our little Nicholas.

January 22, 2006 Sunday - (Day +415) Outpatient - (Day 372)

Nicholas and I woke up this morning after a great night of sleep. He was in high gear right off the bat. We played concentration with his new cards, watched Thomas the Tank, and ate breakfast. He is so much fun. I chased him up and down the hall for hours. Wish I could bottle his energy. Nicholas is doing great, please continue to pray for his recovery and the removal of his port on Feb 8, 2006. Everyday is a great day, and what a great Valentine Gift.

January 21, 2006 Saturday - (Day +414) Outpatient - (Day 371)

Nicholas helped me cook dinner tonight and then we played in his room with his trucks. He loves to "do all by self" in the kitchen. Nicholas stayed up until the end of Wiggle Bay and danced the whole way through. He went to bed and fell asleep by 10:00pm. This is better than the night before. He has so much energy, it is so great and unbelievable. I love this kid so much... he wears me out.. Please continue to pray for his recovery.

January 20, 2006 Friday - (Day +413) Outpatient - (Day 370)

What a riot. Nicholas came over and kicked me right off my computer. I need to start to teach him how to program. You never know he might be the next great video game developer by six, lol...I set him up his own user on my system just so he can play on the sites that he likes. I added them to his favorites and he figured that out right away. He was a wild man all day and we finally went to sleep at 11:00pm. He just has so much energy and feels so great, which is awesome. Please continue to pray for our little Nicholas and his recovery.

January 17, 2006 Tuesday - (Day +410) Outpatient - (Day 367)

Nicholas woke up this morning after a great night and could not decide what video to watch, so he watched them all. He wanted to wear his big dog shirt  and big boy jeans this afternoon when we went out to run our errands. He was kicking back in his chair in his room watching tv like an adult just talking away. He is so special, what a trooper. Please continue to pray for Nicholas and a continued great path to recovery.

January 16, 2006 Monday - (Day +409) Outpatient - (Day 366)

Nicholas came over for a couple of days. I was making the bed and he decided to hide in it. He thought that I could not see him, but the foot was the give away. He is so funny all day, it is incredible. We just had fun and played all night. Please continue to pray for our Nicholas and his on-going immune system.

January 12, 2006 Thursday - (Day +405) Outpatient - (Day 362)

Nicholas is ready for spring. He loves his big wheel that Santa brought him. He has been full of it today, and has been very impatient. He wants to do things now you know. He is so full of life, thank god for this. He is doing great still and we are on the count down to Feb 8, 2006 when he is scheduled to have his port removed. Scary!!! Please continue to pray for Nicholas and his recovery.

January 11, 2006 Wednesday - (Day +404) Outpatient - (Day 361)

Nicholas is here for a few days. He is in rare form and I have lost my computer again, lol... This little programmer loves the computer. He needs one for himself to be right here with dad. Nicholas is doing awesome and we are going to have fun for a couple of days. Please continue to pray for our little Nicholas and his recovery.

January 8, 2006 Sunday - (Day +401) Outpatient - (Day 358)

Nicholas and I had fun playing, riding his bike, and dancing. He has been full of it all day. He is learning more words all of the time and putting larger sentences. I took him to his moms this afternoon for a couple of days. He wanted to stay outside and play even though it was cold. He is very funny to listen to him talk and he informed us that their motorcycles "were dirt bikes" What a kick. He is so funny. Please continue to pray for Nicholas and his continued recovery.

January 7, 2006 Saturday - (Day +400) Outpatient - (Day 357)

It quit raining today and the sun came out and warmed up a little. Nicholas wanted to go out and ride his new big wheel that he got from Santa. This was the first time out since because it has been so cold. He loves his big wheel and rode it all over. We drove around in the car and did are usual errands. Anything to get outside. Neither one of us likes to be cooped up in the house. We hope that winter is over (probably not) but it is fun while the weather is warm. Nicholas is still doing great and we are working our way to Feb 8, 2006 when he will have his port removed. Please continue to pray that Nicholas continues to do so well.

January 6, 2006 Friday - (Day +399) Outpatient - (Day 356)

Nicholas came over for the weekend ready to go. He is wound tight so we played, played, and played. He finally was tired and fell asleep around 9:30pm. He slept through 8:00am in the morning. I guess he was very tired. We played with his Thomas trains and watched videos. Please continue to pray for Nicholas and his recovery.

January 3, 2006 Tuesday - (Day +396) Outpatient - (Day 353)

WE HAVE NUTRAFILLS = 3,900
WHITE BLOOD CELLS = 7,500
RED BLOOD HEMATOCRIT = 34,600
PLATELET = 378,000 (highest ever) woo hoo!!

TBILL = .2 (lowest ever) woo hoo!!

RETIC = .9 (lowest ever) woo hoo!!

Nicholas' appointment went very well. Had a great ear appointment and his hearing is excellent. The eye doctor said his eyes were normal, but wanted to dilate them and his mom and I refused. The doctor did not like that, but since his eyes were fine I found no reason the dilate them at this time. He is still a little behind, but we will start to work with him as if he was in preschool and he will be caught up in just a few

weeks. All of his blood work looks great, maybe the best ever. He is not reticking at all so the hemolisis is now gone. His hair falling out on his head could still be GVH, but we just have to wait and see. When everything continues to go as well as they are currently , Nicholas has another appointment scheduled on Feb 8, 2005 for the family exit meeting, dentist, and surgery to remove his port. At this point Nicholas will pretty well be cured and ready to move on with his life of normality, but I do not know if his mother and I are ready for this yet. We still really rely on Salt Lake City and  we are nervous with him being on his own.

The drive home!!!

We finished up early with his appointment so we decided to head home. Just before we got to Boise it started to rain and we were told that we were heading right into the heart of a large storm. We figured we would get to McCall (100 miles from Boise) without much problems, but it turned out that the snow started about 10 miles from Boise and we were in some of the worst roads that I have ever traveled on in many years.  The white out conditions were hard to see and my windshield kept freezing up due to the extreme cold. After a very long trip at 25 mph we made it to McCall and decided that the roads were too bad to keep going. We would wait out the storm and leave again in the morning when the roads were safer. These are the pictures taken from the hotel rooms in McCall, Idaho. There was a lot of snow that we were driving in. The sand trucks were out de-icing early in the morning, the sun came out and the rest of the drive home on Tuesday morning after a good night sleep was wonderful and very pretty. Roads were clear. Please continue to pray for Nicholas and his recovery.

January 2, 2006 Monday - (Day +396) Outpatient - (Day 353)

We are on our way to Salt Lake City

Due to the weather our flights were cancelled so we set out in the car to make the 625 mile drive. We hit some snow over the pass, but travel was pretty good. Nicholas did very good as he is a great traveler. Here he was kicking back in the hotel room ready for bed on Monday night before the appointment on Tuesday morning. We will all  get up early for a all day visit with a few doctors for his yearly tests. Please pray for good results from the tests.

January 1, 2006 Sunday - (Day +395) Outpatient - (Day 352)

Happy New Year!!!

Nicholas came over and stayed the night with me and we (I) rang in the New Year. Nicholas fell asleep at 10.00. Did not quite make it to 12.00am.  lol... We had a great time and this morning he was saying Happy New Year, so I had to take a picture. What a ham. He was full of energy until we went to bed then woke up in high gear. We have started to pack for the long 3 day trip to Salt Lake City. We will be on the road on Monday and have appointments all day on Tuesday, then rest up and get back on the road again on Wednesday for the trip home. Please pray for Nicks health and a very safe drive to Salt Lake City for Mom, Dad and Nicholas.
