Nicholas' Journal February 2006

February 28, 2006 Tuesday - (Day +452) Outpatient - (Day 409)

Nicholas came over today feeling better and getting around a little better on his leg. He probably just bruised it doing his flying karate chops and landing on his bummm. Even with a gimpy leg he is so happy. I love him so much. Please continue to pray for our little Nicholas.

February 27, 2006 Monday - (Day +451) Outpatient - (Day 408)

Nicholas had a doctors appointment today. He went from the gulping on Wed and Thursday to limping so bad that he was crawling to get around. We called Salt Lake City and they told us that we were released from them and we need to go see Dr. Ambrosin, Nicks local pediatrician. They said that he was ok and now they have turned us over to his local doctor. This is hard to handle since we have had such a tie to Salt Lake City, but Dr Ambrosin is wonderful and he actually delivered Nicholas and has been his doctor since birth. We found out that his gulping is probably a tik from what he has been through and the leg is that he probably has injured nit from playing. We are to wrap it and it should be better in 3-5 days. Nick sat and talked to him the whole time and Dr. Ambrosin just talked back and smiled. He commented on how good he looks and assured us that he would be ok. It has been a long time, but his mom and I still will not let our guard down. Please continue to pray for our little and getting bigger Nicholas Ashby.

February 23, 2006 Thursday - (Day +447) Outpatient - (Day 404)

LOL, Nicholas was so excited that he got to swim in the tub. This was the first time in over 2 years that he could go swimming because he does not have his port anymore and his chest is healed. He loved to swim in his pool when he was 1 and 2 years old, but had to stop because of the sun and the porphyria. Now that it is gone along with his port he can swim again. He will have so much fun this summer swimming, and being outside what he loves to do. Please continue to pray for our little Nicholas.

February 22, 2006 Wednesday - (Day +446) Outpatient - (Day 403)

I picked up Nicholas this afternoon and he wanted to go straight to McDonalds for a happy meal with a boy toy, he is so cute. So off to McDonalds to lunch we went. He loves to yell from his car seat his order, and then politely he says "thanks." We went to Starbucks then home for the afternoon. He was in a great mood and very full of it today. He is starting to gulp pretty bad suddenly so we will call his doctors in Salt Lake City tomorrow and see what we need to do. Please pray for Nicholas and his continued recovery.

February 21, 2006 Tuesday - (Day +445) Outpatient - (Day 402)

Here he is being a ham bone in his tough guy shirt. He stayed with me for a few hours so Mom and brother could go to the eye doctor. We  just hung out, danced, played, chased, and tickled. He loves to run up and down my hall while I chase him and tickle him on the bed. He is just full of energy and life. Please continue to pray for our little Nicholas.

February 19, 2006 Sunday - (Day +443) Outpatient - (Day 400)

Nicholas went to bed last night and was a sleep by 8:00pm. At 4:30am he decided that it was time to get up, went to his room and got on his bike. I was able to get him back to sleep until 6:15am then the day was on. He was wound and wanted to play. We drove up to him Moms today so he could play with brother Mitchell. He really loves his brother. When we arrived he showed me how he plays motorcycles with "Douglas" on the play station, lol...Nicholas is so funny. Please continue to pray for Nicholas and his recovery.

February 18, 2006 Saturday - (Day +442) Outpatient - (Day 399)

 Nicholas has been wound most of the day. He found a new game on the internet on the dora the explorer - Blues Clues site and it is a matching game. He really likes it and could not get him away from it. Here he is ready to go out on our afternoon stroll and get lunch. Holding the keys and telling me "daddy-o, we ready to go." So off we went. He is so cool. We have had a lot of fun today, so off we go. Please continue to pray for our little Nicholas and his recovery.

February 17, 2006 Friday - (Day +441) Outpatient - (Day 398)

Nicholas is still doing great!!! Still dancing and singing to the Wiggles. We are getting ready for pizza Friday's at papa Murphy's Pizza. It is very cold here 7deg at night so we have to stay in the house. Hope Spring comes soon so he can go out and ride his bike. He loves the outdoors. Please continue to pray for our little Nichols.

February 15, 2006 Wednesday - (Day +439) Outpatient - (Day 396)

Nicholas woke up bright and early this morning and the first thing that he did was reach under the pillow and find the monies that the tooth fairy left him. He held it all morning until he started to run around. He was so excited about it, and now the next one is on its way out. We can see the top of the new tooth already coming in and it looks to be white. The doctors keep telling us they would be black, but so far white. Please continue to pray for our little nicholas.

February 14, 2006 Tuesday - (Day +438) Outpatient - (Day 395)

Happy Valentines Day

Happy Valentines day!!!

Nick came down to hang out with Dad for a couple of days. What a great Valentines day. We ran and played, and just had fun. He has had a loose tooth for a few days now and guess what he lost it, "toofless in wooiston" what a crack up. He is going to put in under his pillow for the tooth fairy to leave some money when he goes to bed tonight. He has no port anymore and just steri-strips. It will be all healed up in another week. Nick is doing great, but keep the prayers coming for the immune system to fully build over the next few months.

February 8, 2006 Wednesday - (Day +432) Outpatient - (Day 389)

Nicholas will have his port removed today!!

Here we  are in salt lake City and we all had a good trip. Nicholas is leaving for his doctors appointment this morning to get his blood checked, have a infusion to strengthen his bones, a dentist appointment, the exit meeting with his doctors to go over all of the results of his transplant and the results of all of the tests he has taken in the last 2 visits which is routine at the end of transplant, and then a scheduled 2:30pm surgery to remove his port.

Please pray for a great appointment, and an easy surgery and recovery for his port removal.

Update!!!

WE HAVE NUTRAFILLS = pending
WHITE BLOOD CELLS = 9,000
RED BLOOD HEMATOCRIT = 36,300
PLATELET = 391,000
BILLYRUBIN = .2

RETIC = 1.4

Nicholas is so awesome!!! He came out of surgery with no port and he was very mad. The nurses said that sometimes the anesthesia will do that. We went back to the hotel and about an hour later you would never know that he just left surgery. He was running and bouncing off the walls, and we really tried to keep him relaxed, but he just felt good and was very happy. All of his numbers are normal and we do not have to go back to Salt Lake City until June, WOW!!! Nicholas will then receive his first immune shot then the others from there. The next morning he was very ready to come home, so off to the plane we went and we were in Lewiston about 4 hours later.

Thank you to everyone who has helped Nicholas, his doctors, Angel Flight, Life Flight, etc...for making this bone marrow transplant a success.

Please pray that he continues to do so well while he is still building up his immune system.

We woke up today to a very sunny and bright day. It is 52 degrees and beautiful. Nicholas was antsy to get outside and play. He kept telling me that it was time for me to take a shower to go out and ride his bike since about 9:00am. He is definitely an outdoor kid. Nicholas has had fun all day and we are going to get ready for dinner. Please pray for Nicholas' health and that the trip to Salt Lake City, and surgery goes well.
