Nicholas' Journal October 2005

October 30, 2005 Sunday - (Day +332) Outpatient - (Day 289)

    Nicholas and I spent the morning eating and carving the pumpkin for halloween. He really had fun this year and even helped to clean and carve it and did not mind the slimy stuff on his hands. We had a picnic and went for a drive to see the big trains. Nicholas spent the rest of the day riding his bike and playing with the football. He wanted to stay outside all day and did not want to come in the house. He is a true outdoor kid. The long winter weather is going to be too cold so we will have to find things to do inside. I am re-doing his room so when he comes over his room will change. Nicholas' health is awesome. Please pray for the continued great health for Nicholas.

October 29, 2005 Saturday - (Day +331) Outpatient - (Day 288)

     Isn't he Cute!!!

Here he is in his new outfit that we bought at Old Navy last week while we were in Salt Lake City. We went in there for bouncy balls and came out with new clothes. He did not want to take it off today, he even wore it around the house. He has been doing great all weekend, full of energy, eating, and just having fun. Please continue to pray for his continued great health.

October 28, 2005 Friday - (Day +330) Outpatient - (Day 287)

Doctors say that the antibodies are weakening!!!

The doctors called today and said that he antibodies that caused the hemolisis are weakening, in fact that they are hard to find. The test 2 weeks ago showed that the antibodies started to weaken, so we are on the road to these antibodies going away or burning themselves out. Nicholas looks, acts, and feels better everyday, in fact if you did not know what he has been through you would have no idea. Please pray for the antibodies to keep on weakening.

Nicholas is here for the weekend and went trick or treating to the families houses. He then came over here and trick or treated me. He is so cute in his dinosaur costume and wants to wear it all of the time. The boys are going to party all weekend. Please pray for Nicholas to continue to do so well.

October 26, 2005 Wednesday - (Day +328) Outpatient - (Day 285)

WE HAVE NUTRAFILLS = 5,900
WHITE BLOOD CELLS = 9,700
RED BLOOD HEMATOCRIT = 40,300
PLATELET = 199,000
BILLYRUBIN = .3

RETIC = 3.0

Nicholas had another great appointment and we are on our way home. His numbers are awesome and are all in the normal range. He is still eating like a horse so the doctors do not want to make any substantial changes due to the steroid taper that he is on. He should be off the steroids by the end of December so now it is time to make sure that he eats, and stays very healthy. The retic count is up a little that shows that he is still hemolizing, but the last coombs test confirmed that the antibodies are getting weaker and all of the other numbers are great. The antibodies are what was formed that caused the hemolisis. With this getting weaker we are on a great road. He can still hemolize as long as these antibodies are there, and if he gets sick with a viral infection of some sort so we need to keep him healthy. The doctors have informed us that he should stay away from little kids due to the sicknesses that they can have, and we can re-evaluate this again around March of next year after his immunizations, and the RSV season ends. Nicholas still runs like a wild man and feels awesome. Please pray that the antibodies continue to get weaker.

October 25, 2005 Tuesday - (Day +327) Outpatient - (Day 284)

Back in Salt Lake City For a check up!!!

Nicholas and mom left this morning and had Angel Flight take them down here to Salt Lake City, and I left early this morning to meet them here and to get ready for his appointment. He has been running like a wild man all afternoon until he sat down to play on my computer. His color has been coming and going for the last 10 days, but he feels great and has lots of energy, so I think he will be fine. His appointment is at 9:00am and we hope to be on the road back home by 11:00am. Please pray for his numbers to be good and the hemolisis to go away.

October 21, 2005 Friday - (Day +323) Outpatient - (Day 280)

Nicholas started speech therapy this morning so we got up early and drove up to moms house. On our way we stopped and drove through Starbucks where he proceded to call out his order from the car seat. I did not think that the girls were going to stop laughing. They knew it was Nicholas and had his drink waiting for him when we got to the window. They gave him a drink and a starbucks sticker, Nick was so thrilled. We then started the drive to moms for his appointment which we are calling school. He did great!! The one therapist was sick so she did not come, but Pam was very nice and gave us some pointers to help Nicholas along. She said that he is doing great and not to worry. Nicholas just made my whole day and weekend when he gave me my birthday present this morning and said "happy birthday daddy." It was a bag with candles and a card. I will burn them in the house tomorrow. It was so precious, Thank you very much Nicholas.  Please continue to pray for his recovery. We have another appointment in Salt Lake City on Tuesday. Hugs and kisses Nicholas.

October 20, 2005 Thursday - (Day +322) Outpatient - (Day 279)

As usual Nicholas was a riot and a joy all day. We played football, rode his trike, and just ran all  day until he wore himself out at 9:00pm and fell asleep and snored all night. I never knew that such a little boy could snore so loud, it was precious. The fall weather here is still nice during the day so he can stay outside and play if he wants too. As you can see here, he also helped me cook dinner.He loves to help in the kitchen especially when he says "all by self" It is so funny. Please continue to pray for Nicholas and his health.

October 19, 2005 Wednesday - (Day +321) Outpatient - (Day 278)

Nicholas came down from Moms today to spend a couple of days with dad. He had taken a little nap on his way so we were up late playing. He can take just a little power nap and it just recharges his batteries. He finally fell asleep at 11:00pm when the news started. We had a great time  playing with his cars and dancing to Wiggles. He is so much fun, but I wish that I had as much energy that he does. Please continue to pray for Nicholas and his ongoing health.

October 16, 2005 Sunday - (Day +318) Outpatient - (Day 275)

Nicholas had a great day today running and playing outside. The fall weather here is still awesome with cool nights and warm days. Nicholas had fun with lots of family today spending time with his grandma and great grandma on dads side (grandma GG, and grandma Dee) and then off to spend time with Dougs family. He will also get to spend time with his brother this week and also his grandma and grandpa (Mary Ann's mom and dad). He loves to spend time with friends and family. He is quite the social butterfly. Please continue to pray for his recovery.

October 15, 2005 Saturday - (Day +317) Outpatient - (Day 274)

Nicholas has been a blast today. He woke up wanting to go outside and ride his bike and has been on the go ever since. He has eaten well, and drank a lot of fluids also. I think that he is going to float away, but it is what he needs or the feeding tube could be put back in and we do not want that. Other than that he is awesome. We are on our way back outside to play. Please continue to pray for his recovery.

October 14, 2005 Friday - (Day +316) Outpatient - (Day 273)

LOOK, NO TUBE!!!!!

Here is Nicholas relaxing and getting ready to go to bed after a long day of playing, and he is saying his prayer to his mom on the phone. It is great that his tube is gone and he is also doing a great job of drinking enough fluids. He feels great and is still a wild man.

October 12, 2005 Wednesday - (Day +314) Outpatient - (Day 271)

WE HAVE NUTRAFILLS = 8,600
WHITE BLOOD CELLS = 12,100
RED BLOOD HEMATOCRIT = 40,600
PLATELET = 225,000
BILLYRUBIN = .3

RETIC = 2.8

Nicholas had a great Dr. Appointment today. All of is numbers went up. The retic count is still at 2.8 with 0 being all gone, but his red blood cell went up. This is good. He is holding his hemotocrit well into the normal range and he feels good with all of that new great oxygen floating around in his body. His nutrafills and his white cells are elevated which shows that he is trying to fight something off like a cold or viral infection, but for now he is fighting it off and doing well. Nicholas received a large bag of IVIG yesterday which will help his immune system stay strong. He has lost his feeding tube and now we have to make sure that he drinks a lot of fluids to keep his liver and kidneys hydrated. We also have to make sure that he continues to eat well and stay full to keep him strong and healthy. We are running fluids through his port at night to help out with the fluid intake, but NO feeding tube on his face anymore, yeah!!! His steroid taper will continue and the doc's say that Nicholas should be done and off the steroids by late December or early January. He is doing so great. Please continue to pray for this great and successful recovery from this very hard bone marrow transplant.

October 11, 2005 Tuesday - (Day +313) Outpatient - (Day 270)

In Salt Lake City having fun on the day before doc appt!!!

Here is Nicholas tearing it up on the day before we have the appointment. We will be in the doctors office tomorrow at 9:00am until we go home. He is so full of energy and color I know that we will get to go home. Nick has been saying all afternoon "just a quick check up!!" He is so cute. Well, got to get some sleep and get ready for the big day tomorrow. Please pray that his blood continues to get better.

October 10, 2005 Monday - (Day +312) Outpatient - (Day 269)

On Our Way Back to Salt Lake City For Check Up!!!

Nicholas has so much red color it is unbelievable. I have not ever seen so much color in his skin. I know that his tests will turn out great with his doctors appointment on Wednesday morning. We are getting ready to leave now. Mom and Nick will fly on Angel flight and I will drive there and meet them at the airport. Please pray that our bundle of joy will be back home in a couple of days with the hemolisis lower or gone, and the red blood cell count higher.

October 7, 2005 Friday - (Day +309) Outpatient - (Day 266)

Nicholas and I had a great day. We ran some errands and then I took him home to his moms for a few days. He is very full of energy and life in general. It is so wonderful to have him feeling so well. Please keep him in your prayers. We will be in Salt Lake City on Tuesday for a wednesday visit. Please pray that his blood keeps on doing well and we get to come home again.

October 6, 2005 Thursday - (Day +308) Outpatient - (Day 265)

I never knew some little guy could feel so great and have sooooo much energy!!! I swear, he is going to be a cross country track star someday. He woke up running and never stopped until he went to bed tonight. He is a "wild man" on a mission. Nicholas had a great day today and he is eating better everyday. Please pray for the continued success of his transplant.

October 5, 2005 Wednesday - (Day +307) Outpatient - (Day 264)

Nicholas came here today just wound tight. He has so much energy and is running through the house. He word his Oscar the Grouch coat and it is just adorable. We are going to eat, play and watch videos for the next few days. Please pray for Nicholas to continue to do so well.

October 2, 2005 Sunday - (Day +304) Outpatient - (Day 261)

Nicholas had a great night of sleep and woke up bright and early 6:45am in high gear. He was running down the hall before he even had his morning coffee. Nicks mom called this morning to check up on him and he was singing and dancing to Thomas the Train. It was so cute I had to take a picture. He wants to go outside and ride his bike already probably because it is not raining and the sun is out. He has eaten great all weekend, the best ever in the last year. He pretty much ate all day yesterday, and this morning also. Well, we are going outside to play. Please pray that he continues to do so well.

October 1, 2005 Saturday - (Day +303) Outpatient - (Day 260)

Who is the programmer here??

It was a rainy day today so we stayed in and played. Nicholas has a lot of fun on my computer watching playhouse Disney, and wiggles. His favorite is the Bear In The Big Blue House and dances to the Mombo. What a riot he is. He has loved the computer since day one. His energy was the highest that it has been, maybe because it was raining and we could not go out. Please pray that he continues to do great and we stay home.
