Nicholas' Journal November 2005

November 30, 2005 Wednesday - (Day +363) Outpatient - (Day 320)

Well, I lost my computer again. I am convinced that I need to bring his computer out here with me so we can work together. He loves to play concentration on Thomas the Tank website. What a life, Thomas on the computer, and Bob the Builder on the TV. Our appointment got postponed until next Tuesday due to the weather. He is doing great. He is on his last 2 weeks of steroids and then his body will be on its own. Please continue to pray for him and his recovery.

November 27, 2005 Sunday - (Day +360) Outpatient - (Day 317)

Nicholas and I went for a drive today and stopped at one of his favorite spots. It was all decorated for christmas and he thought it was "really cool". At this time last year he was starting his chemo in Salt Lake City and missed all of the holidays. I am glad that this year we are back home for Nicholas to enjoy. He is still doing great and full of energy. Please continue to pray for Nicholas and his successful recovery.

November 26, 2005 Saturday - (Day +359) Outpatient - (Day 316)

Brrrrr!!! It is cold here.

We have a storm ending today with o lot of cold air behind it and it is suppose to snow for the next few days. We stayed in all day, but pretended to go out in the cold. We took our normal drives around town just to get out. Nicholas loves his outfit and his winter gloves. He has been very busy all day running, tickling, and giggling!! Grandma Dee and Aunt Becky came down to visit and play with him also, and he was such a ham. Please pray for the continued health of Nicholas and a safe trip for us to Salt Lake City on Tuesday.

November 25, 2005 Friday - (Day +358) Outpatient - (Day 315)

My New Bubble  chair!!

 Nicholas had a great afternoon. He came over in his new cookie monster shirt and had a new "bubble" chair to sit in. Life is great. We ran and played all night until we were both worn out and went to be so we can do it all over again tomorrow. He still feels very good and is eating like a horse. Please continue to pray for our little Nicholas.

November 24, 2005 Thursday - (Day +357) Outpatient - (Day 314)

Nicholas spent the morning with me playing Thomas the Train on my computer. He was matching up the cards on the most difficult level, and by the end of the morning he could finish the game without help. It was a challenge for him, but without a challenge he seems to be bored with things. We had fun playing them went for a cruze in my car before I dropped him off at Grandmas house for the family festivities. Nicholas will come back on friday for the weekend. Please continue to pray for Nicholas and his continuing health.

November 23, 2005 Wednesday - (Day +356) Outpatient - (Day 313)

Nicholas came over to spend a couple of days with dad. He decided to wear his overalls, and really liked them. We tried to have him wear overalls when he was a baby, but he was really not an overall kinda kid, but he is really cute in them and enjoys them. He was a ham in them. His mom got him a shreck pail and some videos, so we watched them all night. Please continue to pray for our little (and getting bigger everyday) Nicholas.

November 18, 2005 Friday - (Day +351) Outpatient - (Day 308)

 Look I am on Tee Eee. Nicholas is doing great. We spent the day just hanging out, riding his bike and running errands until Mom and brother came to pick me up. Nicholas continues to do great. Please pray for his blood to continue to do so well.

November 17, 2005 Thursday - (Day +350) Outpatient - (Day 307)

Nicholas and I had a great day. He used to get into boxes while we were at the Ronald McDonald house last winter so he thought that he was still a little guy like he was then so he tried to fit into this box today then he started to giggle. He has grown so much in the last 6 months. He decided to take sponge bob to bed and sleep with him last night in his new fire truck jammies (so cute). Please continue to pray for Nicholas and the hemolisis stays gone.

November 16, 2005 Wednesday - (Day +349) Outpatient - (Day 306)

Nicholas has been full of energy all day until he went down for a little power nap at 4:00pm. He is just a hoot, learning and talking more and clearer all of the time. We played on my computer and then played with the building blocks. He is just awesome. Please continue to pray for the successful recovery of Nicholas.

November 13, 2005 Sunday - (Day +346) Outpatient - (Day 303)

Talking to gamma, and gampa

Nicholas woke up this morning and gave me kisses before he was even awake. Then he wanted to cuddle for a couple of minutes before I was drug out of bed to watch the big TV and eat breakfast. He said he was hungry so we ate while he was talking on the phone to gamma, and gampa (on the play phone). He then through his arm around me and gave me big hugs. He is so affectionate, it is so awesome!! We are getting ready to run errands, eat lunch in a little while, then to moms we go for a few days. Please continue to pray for Nicholas and the glutins stay gone.

November 12, 2005 Saturday - (Day +345) Outpatient - (Day 302)

Nicholas woke up this morning having his coffee with dad and then off and running. He had a great day. It was a little cold here so we could not spend as much time outside as he would have liked. He is a trooper. He ran laps up and down the hall, and danced all day. we went for drives in the car, saw the snow cone machine, and rode his trike up and down the hill.  I think that his donor was a cross country runner.  Please continue to pray for Nicholas and his miraculous recovery.

November 11, 2005 Friday - (Day +344) Outpatient - (Day 301)

Nicholas went to watch his brother ride motorcycles today even tho it was cold. He got all dressed up in his own suit and had a lot of fun. He came down to dads and now "the boys are going to party"  for the weekend. He has been tearing it up for the last couple of days. I am sure glad he feels so great. Please continue to pray for our little (very energetic) nicholas.

November 10, 2005 Thursday - (Day +343) Outpatient - (Day 300)

Nicholas was here for the afternoon until his brother got out of school. He feels so good and is so full of energy. He loves his trike and either wants to ride it all day or play football. He would stay outside all night if we let him, but it is too cold this time of the year. He is definitely an outdoor kid which is good since we live in gods country. Please pray that Nicholas continues to do so well and the antibodies stay out of his blood.

November 9, 2005 Wednesday - (Day +342) Outpatient - (Day 299)

WE HAVE NUTRAFILLS = 7,400
WHITE BLOOD CELLS = 11,200
RED BLOOD HEMATOCRIT = 37,700
PLATELET = 249,000
BILLYRUBIN = .3

RETIC = 1.0

    Nicholas' appointment went great. His retic count in 1.0 and the normal range is .5 - 1.5 The doctors are very excited about his blood, and are starting to take more meds away, (scary). Nicholas lost the night pump that gave him the extra fluid to keep his liver and kidneys hydrated, lost his magnesium because his body is getting enough through his daily diet, and lost the morning pump which was an antibiotic that is given while on high doses of steroids. The doctors said that his steroid level is more maintenance and is around what his body normally produces itself. He should be off the steroids on 4-5 weeks completely and them 3 months after that they say that he should have a normal immune system. At that time we will start his immunization shots one at a time. With RSV season, flu season, and cold season here we will do everything possible to keep him extremely healthy and continue to move to the next level in a few months. This is a very scary time for mom and I, but the doctors say that is normal from what we have been through and that it is hard to remove that security blanket, but it will get easier in time the longer that Nick stays healthy and life becomes more normal. It is weird to put him to bed with no pumps running, and will be even more weird in the morning when we do not have to hook him up to another pump. It is just the oral meds now ( is this the normal that the docs are talking about???) It is scary, but it is so great that Nicholas is doing so well. We do not have to return to Salt Lake City for 3 weeks now, then we will be on a monthly appointment schedule. Please continue to pray for our little guy that his health continues to do so well.

The drive home from Salt Lake City was very hard with thick fog, temps around 16 degrees, and very icy roads. We all got home just after midnight from a very stressful drive. Nicholas was a trooper for the whole drive, What a great lil traveler.

November 8, 2005 Tuesday - (Day +341) Outpatient - (Day 298)

Solid Ice 25 Deg.

Our first winter storm has hit right on the day that we need to leave for Nicholas' appointment in Salt Lake City. Nicholas and Mom were able to fly on Angel Flight at the last minute, since the weather broke and allowed the planes to fly. I hit the road and tackled some very bad roads for the first 200 miles. Although, we live in beautiful country, sometimes the weather is harsh. Nicholas will have his appointment tomorrow and then we will drive home. Please pray for the hemolisis to continue to go away and Nick to have a great appointment.

15" of snow in McCall

November 4, 2005 Friday - (Day +337) Outpatient - (Day 294)

Nicholas was up and at em' bright and early this morning running up and down the hall dancing to the doodlebops, and wiggles. He then needed my computer to play with clay on playhouse disney while talking to his mom on the phone. Nicholas likes to be on the internet, so I set him up his own computer in his room so he can use it whenever he wants to. I also hooked up his bigger TV and hung alot of pictures of cars on the walls. I am glad that he really likes his new room, and we spent alot of time in there this week. Please continue to pray for Nicholas' recovery. We will be in Salt Lake City on Wednesday for another appointment.

November 3, 2005 Thursday - (Day +336) Outpatient - (Day 293)

    Nicholas was such a trooper today!! He just wanted to go, go, and go. We had a great time sight seeingtoday and then he was such a great help with me in the kitchen. He decided it was more fun to dance with the mittens on rather than cook. That was ok tho, because it was so funny. He is growing up so fast it seems. What a trooper. Please continue to pray for Nicholas and his recovery.

November 2, 2005 Wednesday - (Day +335) Outpatient - (Day 292)

Nicholas came over with video in hand and ready to go. He is so funny and the things that he says are incredible. He is wound tight and full of energy. We had a great dinner, bath and some cuddle time before we went to bed. Nicholas is doing awesome. Please pray that the antibodies continue to go away.
